Winterfest

One Friday night, a couple weeks ago, we went to Newark to the Winterfest.  It was pretty cool!  Not too cold.  Ate dinner and met up with some friends.  They had a bunch of activities going on.

We watched this guy do an ice sculpture throughout the night.  It started at 6 with a big block of ice.  And by 7:30, it was a nutcracker!  How cool!
We wandered to the courtyard where they had cookies and hot cocoa, carolers and an orchestra playing Christmas carols.  And then Santa came on a fire truck!  How exciting!

We wandered around some more.  Devan got a reindeer tattoo on his hand and his nose painted like Rudolph.  Then he got to give the University of Delaware's mascott (blue hen I think?) a high five.  Then back to wait in line for Santa.

I'm next!!!
He asked for a green car and an airplane.  Ones that you can drive!  Ha!  That's a tall order for Santa.... maybe a toy will suffice???  And he got a candy cane.  His first one ever.  He didn't really like it :)
This was the first year without tears!!!!  Yahoo!!!  He was actually excited to talk to Santa.  What a difference a year makes :)
And Lexi?  It was now her turn to cry, as seen below.  She was NOT liking this strange man :)
This Santa was great!  He took his time and really talked to the kids.  Sometimes they try and rush everyone through.  But not him.  He got Devan to talk :)  And he made sure I had the pictures I wanted before ending the visit.  What a great experience!

We went to Barnes and Noble for some free ice cream and story time.  But, Santa took a little longer than expected, so we caught the end of it.  Devan was so disappointed it was over!

As we were walking back to the car, we passed the bell ringers playing carols in the fire station. We stopped and listened for a bit before going home.

What a great night!!!
