I've had several people bug me for an update.... So here's a quickie (and no pics because I haven't downloaded them from my phone).
We are half way through our second week back in our routine. Things have been going smooth (most of the time). Devan is getting over a little cold (at least there were only a few bad days). But now Lexi has it. Woke up from her nap yesterday with the deep-in-the-chest man cough, and snot everywhere. She's had a little fever last night and today. And boy has she been a bear! At least Devan is old enough that he could take some cold medicine. But poor Lexi just gets Tylenol. Helps with the fever, but nothing else. She was up twice last night, but was easily re-set (as I call it) with a quick diaper change, some Tylenol, and a little rocking.
So today, my plans went out the window. But we did make it to the library for story time. This week they read books about shapes and then went on a shape hunt through the library and had to find all the shapes and color them the right color. And they got a little prize too. Last week's story time was about patterns and they had different beads that they strung on shoelaces to make patterns.
Devan is back in gymnastics and loving it even more! He really missed it during the month break! And it was fun to come back and see how all the younger siblings have changed (She has more hair! He's walking!, etc etc).
Devan also had his first basketball practice last Sunday. He loved it! And the coaches are great. In the beginning for warm-up the 3, 4, and 5 yr olds are all together and it's led by Dave (my favorite- Devan's T-ball coach). Then the 3's break off. First impression: so far so good :) Devan did great, except for the dribbling. He's never actually done it before and he managed to kill the ball each time. It kept dying on him and he would pick it up and run ahead because the other kids were beating him (and we all know how much he hates to loose!) So this weekend, Dustin will blow up our old basketballs and take him in the basement for some practice. We've been working on our shooting form this week and he's gotten much better already.
Lexi decided last week that she was finally going to go for it and climb the stairs. She's gotten really good, but she doesn't want to learn how to come down. She just stands at the top and wails. Every morning, I let her climb for 5 minutes to get it out of her system. And then in the evenings, they like to run up and down the hall upstairs. Gets energy out I guess.
Lexi also learned how to blow kisses. It's super cute :) And she's been communicating more, which is great! She will walk over to the fridge and bounce around pointing (this means she wants some milk- or a snack). If her cup is on the counter she will walk over and point to it. Etc, etc. A lot less tantrums. LOL.
Another huge marker: Lexi will now stay in the gym childcare for 30 minutes!! Yes!! That means I get 30 mins to work out before being paged. This is so exciting people!!! We're taking baby steps in the right direction- away from our stranger anxiety :)
I also started the preschool search. Most places are out because of the cost. I'm blown away by the prices out here! So, pretty much we're left with 2 options. But I guess that means it's not so overwhelming??? I already toured one place and loved it. Now hopefully I can get a tour set up for the other place next week. I need to get the paperwork in the first day enrollment opens for "newcomers" (Feb 1) because there are very few spots available. The biggest decision: mornings or afternoons??? Pros and cons with both.
Mornings:
Cons: Less spots available and it's hard to get everyone out the door that early
Pros: I could have one-on-one time with Lexi which she rarely gets and Devan is more focused in the mornings
Afternoons:
Cons: I don't know what Lexi's nap schedule will be like in 9 months and I really don't want to have to wake her to get Devan. Also, I wouldn't be able to go work out or anything because she would be napping.
Pros: More spots available and I would have complete alone time to get work done or whatever
So.... There's my quick update. Now back to work :)
