Top 10 reasons we're over the snow

Saw this article in the local weekly mailer...

Top 10 Reasons We're Over the Snow
This is the South, gosh darn it, and we're sick of the snow. Here's why:

1. Lack of Boots- Between the entire Richmond.com staff, we own 73 pairs of flip-flops and two pairs of boots. Plus, we can't find boots anywhere. Target has moved on to spring season and is pushing flip-flops and bikinis, but no boots or gloves. We saw random people wandering around Willow Lawn, shouting, "Gloves! Where are all the gloves!"

2. Icicles of Death- Almost being impaled by falling icicles or slipping on ice is getting old.

3. Cabin Fever- We're going stir crazy! This is the South, people. We live below the Mason-Dixon line for a reason.

4. No Parking- The snow is taking up prime parking spaces. And sometimes people even park next to them, parking in the actual street.

5. Those Darn Kids!- Suffering those pesky kids throwing snowballs, sledding and enjoying a day off from school while we still have to go in to work and keep a desk warm.

6. Spring- Because we're eager for the 2.5 days of nice Richmond "spring" weather before it turns to a boiling 98 degrees with 100 percent humidity.

7. The Prolonged Panic- We'd like to be able to go to the grocery store again without having to fight people for Hot Pockets!

8. Dirty, Dirty, Dirty- The sand and salt spread on the roads to help keep us safe has just turned into a mess. My car is a mess. The bottom of my shoes are a mess when I step into the house. Everything is a mess.

9. The Roads- Come on Richmond, sweep the &%&@! streets already.

10. Edits- Because we had to cut about 75 things from this list in order to get it to 10. We never thought we'd say it, but we Richmonders are sick of the snow! Bring on the sweltering summer... we're ready to complain about that now!

Update Time :)

Life has definitely been full lately! Our house has been full of laughter these past couple days. Devan has been full of it- such a goofball! Maybe he's just showing me that his top teeth look like they're going to explode from his gums... They're so close!

What's funny to him:
  • Anything Taylor or the cats do
  • Dropping things (especially toys into the bath water)
  • Crawling fast and playing "chase the animals"
  • Getting into trouble (apparently "NO" is funny...)
  • The "Tickle Monster"
  • Making faces when he has a stinky poo

His latest game is to pry the dowel out of the slider and chase Taylor around the house (laughing) with the dowel out in front of him while he crawls. Pretty funny looking. Dowel in one hand, crawling with one knee and one foot, sliding along the hardwood floor.

He likes standing up on everything! He'll pull himself up using the couch and scare the cats who are trying to stay away. He'll pull up on the end tables to try and grab my water bottle or the remote. He also likes toilets and bathtubs. And he tries the entertainment center, only to be told "NO" and then he laughs. He'll get up on one end of the couch and scoot sideways to the other end. And now he'll let go with one hand and turn sideways. Last night he let go with both hands and actually stood for several seconds!

Last night he also discovered the kitchen cabinets... He's been into doors for a long time. But he crawled over to the kitchen cabinet. Got up on his usual stance: 1 knee and 1 foot. And he opened the door with the HANDLE!!! Gotta wonder why he would go through the trouble of reaching for the handle when he knows he can just open it from the side like he does regular doors...

He's also enjoying music and will bounce to the beat (somewhat) when you play it. He's still enjoying his musical V-Day card from Grammy and now he's really into the Learning Dog (I think it's Baby Einstein- from my cousin and her family for Christmas). He pushed the foot, hand, heart, tummy, etc and bounces to the nursery rhyme music. Still too young to understand colors and words, but he likes the music.

I also figured out that if I sit cross-legged on the floor and he sits in my lap, he'll actually sit and listen to a story! He's usually next to me on the bed or floor and he'll grab at the pages or halfway listen. But last night he was kinda cuddly toward the end of the night and I sat him in my lap to read a book and he sat still the whole time!

On another topic....

The countdown is on for Dustin's travels! WhooHoo! 6 more weeks and it'll (hopefully) be over!! Can't wait! 3 more full weeks and 3 more half weeks....

This weekend is going to be packed full! We have a babysitter for Saturday so Dustin's going to take me out to dinner and then we'll see Avatar in 3D. So excited! And probably Sunday we'll go to the boat show with our neighbors. They want us to go with because they're looking at getting one and they want Dustin's input. And Lauryn has been asking to play with Devan for awhile...

I think that's all for now... :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!

Devan's become the master of the giggles :) EVERYTHING is funny to him lately!

Devan rockin' out to his Valentine's day card from Grammy. He'd open it and start bouncing to the music- over and over!

And he thought it was hilarious when we'd drop the Cheerio (over and over and over....)

And he pulled the dowel out of the slider and started playing with it. He tried to poke at Taylor who thought he was playing. This too was hilarious!

And Boo was batting around some cat litter and Devan thought this was hilarious too! For some reason, this was funny. But it wasn't yesterday... ??? Who knows what goes on in his head :)

Snow!!

It's snowing!!! This is the picture we woke up to on Saturday.... Overall we got a little over a FOOT of snow!! It was a cold one- 16 degrees with a wind chill of 5. It snowed ALL day Saturday and into the night.

Devan getting ready to help shovel the driveway on Sunday

Devan is really excited to help dad shovel the driveway :P

Saturday was a p.j. day... We all lounged in our pjs! Best day ever!

Snow day for Mommy and Devan! Can't get the car out until they plow the street...

"What is this crazy white stuff and why is it so cold???"

Not really enjoying the snow... Devan says "it's cold on my bottom! Waaaaa!!!"

Kudos to Dustin: Saturday night one of our neighbors ordered pizza delivery. This poor kid in his late 80's Honda got stuck in our cul de sac (why Dominos allowed this car out in the first place is beyond me!). He was trying really hard but couldn't get anywhere. So Dustin went out and helped him get out of our street. Shoveled the snow out from under the tires and ran behind him, pushing him up our street. Now Dustin has good karma coming his way :)
