Last day of preschool

May 19th marked the last day of preschool for Devan.  I can't believe the year is over already!!!  Before school, I tried to take some pics to compare the the first day of school pics.  He was having problems with the sun, so always has his eye closed.  LOL.

Daddy was headed out of town for the week, but hung around so he could take Devan out to lunch.  And his pick?  McDonalds, of course.  His reasoning?  It's on the way to school and then I won't be late.  Hahaha!
We were supposed to come 45 minutes early for a special goodbye presentation.  They showed a slide show of pictures throughout the year.  And lots of moms were crying.  And yes, there were boxes of tissues everywhere.

After the slide show, they sang some songs for us

And then headed back to their classrooms so their teachers could say goodbye and give them a special goodie

Each preschooler that was off to kindergarten next year got a little sapling to plant, so we could watch it grow as our child did.  A nice special little touch :)  Devan was excited that it was "his" tree.

Then, they got popsicles on the playground

They played for almost an hour!  But he was having so much fun with his friends- and it was a nice day so we just hung out until everyone else left.  We came home and Devan showed me everything he finally got to take home- all the artwork that was hanging in the classroom, and the famous journal that he's been working on all year.

They made forsythia plants- and yes he can now identify those (along with daffodil, tulip and crocus)

This is his beloved journal :)
In September, he wrote his name and put his handprint
In May, this is how he now writes his name (they worked all year on lowercase letters)
His self-portrait in September (he couldn't really draw a smiley face)
And now his self-portrait.  He's come a long way in his drawing skills!  Letters have always been his strong-suite because he's good a copying, but not as good at drawing something on a blank piece of paper.

For some reason, this is upside down...
They practiced dialing their phone numbers and learning their address
The last week they learned about the life cycle of frogs
