Showcase Night @ MDL

After hockey (sweaty sweaty boy!), we raced home for a quick dinner, and then off to kindergarten for their Showcase Night.  They had a scavenger hunt in his classroom which took us to all his work hanging in the room and out in the hall.  So cool to see everything they've been working on!

"We do a lot of things in Kindergarten.  We do morning work and morning meeting.  We learn sight words and Miss Budelman read us a story."
"And then we do work stations.  And then we practice writing.  We go to recess and lunch.  Then it's time for math.  After math we go to specials (this is Spanish, music, art, gym, guidance, or library).  I like school because we do fun things.  Kindergarten is fun.  After specials we do second recess.  After second recess we do snack and then I go with..."
"... Ms Kibler (this is either special math group or AR reading).  And then I come back to Ms Budelman's room.  And then it's time to go home.  I love my class."

Lexi haircut & first dentist experience

The end of April was a very busy day.  Lexi got her hair cut (2nd ever), followed by her first ever trip to the dentist.  Then, Devan had hockey after school, followed by Showcase Night at MDL Kindergarten.

 So much better!!!

So wiggly with anticipation of the dentist
 Watching TV

She did great!  She listened to the hygienist and did everything she was told to do.  And she answered all the dentist's questions!  So nice that I don't have to coax answers out of her like I have to do with Devan.
Her prizes she picked out: vampire teeth and a magnifying glass.

That afternoon we played with moon dough (and mixed up all the colors, much to Devan's dismay), while waiting for Devan to get home from school.

Preschool orientation & tanagrams

On April 29th, Lexi had her preschool orientation.  The director read a story about Corderoy's first day of preschool and talked about what their preschool days would look like.  All the kids got books to take home.  Then we did a walk-through of the school and classrooms.  Boy was Lexi excited.  She was the first in line and chatted Ms Augustine's head off about all the pictures she was going to hang in the hallway, just like Devan did.  And Ms Augustine says to me: boy, she's not shy at all is she?  But, she still has the same mannerisms as Devan.  Haha!
After the tour, the kids got to play on the playground while we mingled with the other parents and teachers.  The first thing Lexi did was go straight to the sand box.  Boy, do I hate these things.  I know they're fun, but I hate all the sand that sticks to their clothes and into their shoes.  And then it gets tracked all over the car and house because you can't get all the sand out of the darn shoes!
Later that day was story time at the library.  She read an interactive book using tanagrams to tell a story, and each kid got to be an animal in the story.  Then they were given their own tanagrams to put together.  And then that afternoon Devan brought home his own tanagram worksheets from school.  Too funny!  What a coincidence that they would both do tanagrams on the same day!
 This was Devan's work:

I love how all the kids make their own cards now.  So interesting to see their skills!

Devan's 6th birthday

For Devan's 6th birthday, we had a kickball game in the backyard.  The kids ran around, played kickball, and then we had a BBQ dinner and cake.  They had so much fun!  This year, it was cold though.  So different from the previous years.  And I was really sick, so I didn't really enjoy myself.  Luckily, Grammy and Grampy were here and they really helped out.  Dustin took over most of the food and Grammy did most of the set-up.  And they both took care of shopping for the food and goodie bags.  Lexi helped assemble the goodie bags.

The night before his party, there was a Kindergarten dance at school.  No siblings.  Just parents and kindergarteners.  Dustin and Devan went together.  They had a silly photo booth, crafts, snacks, and of course dancing.  It was just an hour long, but they had fun together.  i was sad I missed out on it.  Would've been fun for the 3 of us to go together and leave Lexi with Grammy and Grampy.

 Party time!

The cupcakes.  Supposed to be kickballs in the grass.

It was so nice the Jen and Bella drove all the way up here for his party!  The two of them picked up right where they left off.  So great to see that!

The next morning we met them for brunch in town

Going to school on his birthday- with goodie bags for his classsmates in tow :)
